๐ŸŽ“ Kindergarten - Math

✨Kindergarten Math focuses on:

developing number sense, basic operations, spatial reasoning, and understanding simple patterns and measurements. The goal is to build a strong foundation in early math concepts through hands-on activities, visual models, and everyday experiences.

1. Counting and Cardinality (CC)

Detailed Topics:

  • Count to 100 by ones and tens, starting from any number.

  • Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities:

  • Recognize that the last number counted tells “how many” (cardinality).

  • Count objects up to 20, understanding one-to-one correspondence.

  • Compare numbers using terms like more, less, equal, greater than, less than.

  • Understand that numbers represent quantities and can be put in order.

2. Operations and Algebraic Thinking (OA)

Detailed Topics:

  • Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and subtraction as taking apart and taking from.

  • Use addition and subtraction within 10 to solve word problems with objects or drawings.

  • Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3).

  • Find the number that makes 10 when added to a given number.

  • Fluently add and subtract within 5.

3. Number and Operations in Base Ten (NBT)

Detailed Topics:

  • Work with numbers 11–19 to understand place value:

    • Recognize that these numbers are composed of ten ones and some more ones.

  • Use concrete models (e.g., base ten blocks) to represent these numbers.

4. Measurement and Data (MD)

Detailed Topics:

  • Describe and compare measurable attributes like length, weight, and capacity (longer/shorter, heavier/lighter).

  • Classify objects and count the number of objects in categories (sorting and categorizing).

  • Describe the categories by count (e.g., “There are 3 red blocks”).

5. Geometry (G)

Detailed Topics:

  • Identify and describe shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders, spheres).

  • Analyze, compare, create, and compose shapes.

  • Combine simple shapes to form larger shapes (e.g., two triangles make a square).

  • Understand positional words such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to.
